playing around on my tablet… drawing some mickeys…
“the lucky one” and marilyn monroe
here’s the thing.
“new to town with a made up name”: marilyn monroe born norma jeane mortenson
“in the angel’s city chasing fortune and fame”: los angeles
“you look like a 60s queen”: actress in the 50s, early 60s
”and your lover in the foyer doesn’t even know you”: JFK presumably. probably the picture of JKF and Bobby and her.
“your secrets end up splashed on the news front page”: her drug use and divorce from arthur miller
“and they tell you that you’re lucky but you’re so confused cause you don’t feel pretty, you just feel used, and all the young things line up to take your place”: she never liked calling herself a sex symbol especially during the interview for “the last sitting” as well as, shirley maclaine and kim novak replaced her in movie roles.
“you wonder if you’ll make it out alive”: marilyn monroe had said, ”Fame will go by, and, so long, I’ve had you, fame. If it goes by, I’ve always known it was fickle. So at least it’s something I experienced, but that’s not where I live.” and obviously, her ultimate death.
“they tell the legend of how you disappeared, how you took the money and your dignity and got the hell out”: now this is where it gets foggy. because marilyn monroe died, whether she killed herself or of the conspiracies that bobby kennedy killed her. but it could be the fact that she’s in a better place now, than who she was at the end of her life.
“chose the rose garden over madison square”: her last significant public appearance, singing happy birthday to JFK in madison square garden.
“and it took some time, but I understand it now”: is taylor suggesting that monroe escaped and faked her death? probably not. but she is feeling that monroe is in a better place than she was during the end of her life. and swift is saying that she’s probably happier than she would be during her lifetime. as well as she’s dating a kennedy. she understands the kennedy family and the fame and probably the pressure of such a famous family.
and swift’s secret message, “wouldn’t you like to know”
because sure, there is all of this hype that the kennedys hated monroe, but what if they didn’t? they just let the media believe whatever they wanted and to spare jackie kennedy’s feelings and her ultimate admiration.
remember that one time I bought this dress and totally forgot about it? #oops (Taken with Instagram)
have I mentioned how much I love being here? like seriously. ahhh.
